We are committed to promoting the ministry of evangelism in our personal lives and corporately as a church. To accomplish this we plan several outreach events throughout the year as well as contributing to other registered charities both locally and nationally, as well as supporting six missionaries serving internationally through our contributions to North American Baptist Conference Inc.

Our prayer ministries currently consist of the following components:

Pastor’s PIT ( Personal Intercessory Team) Crew.

These are people who pray daily for our pastors and contact them prior to the Sunday Worship Time to specifically pray with them regarding the sermon.

Also, Prayer Link.  This is a monthly prayer guide made available to the congregation to assist in their praying for the needs and future of the church.

Prayer is a vital part of every church ministry and individuals and groups are encouraged to continually develop and expand prayer in every area of their personal life and ministry.

Prayer is like a refreshing drink as we connect with God!

International Students

McDermot Avenue Baptist Church warmly welcomes international students into our church family. Our connecting point is our International Students Life Group that meets on Sunday Mornings.  We seek to reach out and minister to, and with, students from around the world. Our international student ministry is in partnership with International Students, Inc.

McDermot is located close to the University of Manitoba, Brodie Campus.  Our International Student Ministry meets Sunday mornings at 9:30am where there is time to make friends, enjoy interesting studies of the Bible and help students improve their English.

Every Sunday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, children in Grades 1 to 6 can learn about Biblical truths through fun, creative, and age-appropriate activities.  The morning starts with  large group time which includes singing with lots of actions and dynamic teaching.  Children are then divided by grades for small group time with their small group leaders for a time of learning and relationship building.

There are three groups:

 The Sonshiners (Grade 1 & 2), J.A.M. – Jesus and Me (Grades 3 & 4), and

 F.L.I.G.H.T. – Finding Life In God’s Heavenly Truth (Grades 5 & 6).

Kids Church is a place where you will make new friends and learn about God and how he can

change your life from the inside out.

Caterpillar KIDS

Every Sunday, children ages 3 to 5 will explore and discover Bible truths and develop their relationship with Jesus through Bible stories, crafts, games and singing.  They will learn that God loves them, is there for them, and wants to have a forever friendship with them.

Youth in grades 7 to 12 are invited to come and participate in events designed to instill biblical truths through fun challenging activities and applicable, motivating devotional discussions.  The goal is to create a community where youth are discipled to love and serve Jesus Christ and are encouraged to build strong and positive relationships with their peers, encouraging each other in their daily lives.

Catalyst is a dynamic community of single adults (18-25ish) committed to developing genuine friendships and nurturing Christ-centered living. We hold as a priority the need to reach out to the greater community and serve as Christ served, both locally and globally.  Our Life Group meets Sunday Mornings at 9:30am to connect, discuss and learn principles that equip us to our life for God's glory.

Life Groups

new lifegroup logoLIFE GROUPS -  If you are looking to network with good friends in an atmosphere that will provide mutually supportive life experiences and enable you to grow in your relationships with Jesus Christ, join one of our exciting life groups today!

McDermot's Life Groups consist of small groups of people that meet on Sunday Mornings  or in selected homes or locations outside the church during the week.

Sunday morning life groups are held from September until June starting at 9:30 am.  There are a variety of topics and groups available.  Each group consists of a friendly group of people seeking to grow in their relationship with God through Bible and book study, DVD curriculums, prayer and group discussions.

Weekday Life Groups are similar but have the added benefit of a comfortable relaxed home setting that is also a safe place where you will be cared for and learn more about God.

Whether at church on Sunday Mornings or in homes during the week LIFE GROUPS will help you:
- Develop caring and supportive life-long friendships
- Receive strength and encouragement through group prayer and Bible study and through activities that will strengthen relationships
- Become involved in impacting our city for Christ through prayer and acts of kindness
- Celebrate the Christian life with confidence and joy by connecting with God and others

Worship and Arts

Our goal is to provide an environment that invites people to experience God through praise and worship. With the use of a Worship Band and worship leading team, we present familiar and newer songs that are designed to assist the worshipper to be engaged in declaring the truth about God and His character and purpose for each of us.  Through singing, scripture reading, listening, giving and responding, every person is provided with entrance points to experience the reality of a Living God and His desire to communicate with you through His Holy Spirit.

Drama is an ever growing aspect of our worship experience with the use of Monologues, short vignettes and longer scripts, this medium is a vital part of worship ministry.

There are several ways to get involved:   special music (solos, duets, ensembles), joining a worship team (vocalist and musician), drama, greeters, ushers, video and sound technician and help with decorations.  If your desire is to use your God given talents or gifts in this ministry area, please contact Pastor Brian.
